The Night

Issue 40 · One poem

The Night

Dark hours that teach what daylight cannot.

· · ·

Late at night awake,
Unable to sleep again.
Longing for your touch,
Wanting to feel your skin
Looking at your face,
The image before my mind
Studying out your features
I can't believe your mine.
Gazing in to your eyes,
I lose all of my control.
I think I see eternity,
I know I feel your soul.
Now focusing on your lips,
I long to have a kiss.
I need to have you near me,
You know not how you are missed.
I can smell your hair before me,
Every long and gorgeous strand.
I want to caress your body,
And feel you olive tan.
I pretend to hold your hand,
And pull you close to me.
Then I grip my pillow tightly,
I know were meant to be.
I dream of nibbling on your ear,
Sending shivers down your spine.
Oh, how much longer must I wait,
Before I make you mine.

“In the quiet of the night the heart speaks loudest.”
